None on Record is looking at people who are interested in actively changing the narratives about Queer people on the African Continent and its Diaspora.

AfroQueer Podcast Editor call

AfroQueer is a first-person narrative-driven podcast telling stories from Queer Africans about living, loving, surviving and thriving and on the African continent and in the diaspora.

AfroQueer is a podcast produced by the production house None on Record from our studios in Nairobi, Kenya. We launched the first season of the AfroQueer podcast in July 2018; it ran for 8 episodes over the course of four months. We reported on how the race and class divide at Africa’s oldest Pride in Johannesburg plays out in proliferating splinter pride events; on Grindr’s culpability for the growing cases of blackmail and abuse of its African users, on what it takes to turn conservative Kenyan religious leaders into   supporters of LGBT equality, and what happens when your gay wedding goes viral in Nigeria, among other stories. We report stories from places where the stakes of living your truth are high; where gender and sexual diversity can and has landed some in prison. We tell stories from countries with extreme censorship laws; and the medium of podcasting allows us to circumnavigate these laws. We are the first documentary-style Queer African podcast and having just begun an incredible journey, we have big ambitions for our show. We have been selected by Google and PRX in the pioneer cohort of the Google podcast creator program, which means we are well poised to meet our ambitions for Season 2. In Season 2, we are telling compelling stories from more African countries and producing longer episodes reported over a longer time. We are playing with the form and pushing ourselves to produce even richer soundscapes for well told stories.

Residing in Nairobi, Kenya we are a team of brazen women who hail from Uganda, Kenya, Senegal, Gambia,  Australia and the United States. Our digital media house, None on Record, has been producing LGBT  focused arts, culture, and digital media content across the African continent since 2013.

Over the next four months, we will be researching, reporting and scripting the second season of AfroQueer. We are looking for somebody to join the team in the capacity of an editor from August 1st until the end of October  2019. The editor will work with the podcast production team. The application deadline for this post is the 26th of July 2019.
